The Sustainability Corner aims to engage professionals and the public in a dialogue on solutions to sustainable development challenges. Using the internet, EcoSmart applies the Hyde Park Speaker’s Corner concept of “being heard” to bring together sustainability ideas from around the world.
Attendees to various events are invited to speak on camera to share with the world their own particular solutions to urban development and other environmental challenges.
These views primarily focus on five major sustainability themes: Energy, Water, Resources, Land, and Well-Being/Social Sustainability. Subjects explored on Sustainability Corner range from global development and climate change, to green building and sustainable transportation.
Each Sustainability Corner video clip is categorized according to topic or type of solution as well as by the participant’s name, location, organization and the event where the clip was filmed. The site currently lists over 300 video clips from participants representing more than 50 countries.
EcoSmart’s Sustainability Corner was first introduced at the 2006 World Urban Forum (WUF), and related Business Engagement Forum, in Vancouver. Due to the success there, the project went on to capture innovative ideas at two sustainability events in Toronto: the Green Building Festival and Construct Canada building design & construction conference.
